UTOPIAN CUSTOMS
My fascination with motorcycles started when I was 8 years old. A few years ago I got curious what could happen if I combine my passion for bikes with my passion for art and design. That gave birth to Utopian Customs, an opportunity to look at motorcycles as a medium for self-expression.
SMOKER
Based on a 1977 Yamaha DT250 and inspired by a 1935 Crocker speedway racer. The Smoker is a nod to the aesthetic simplicity of earlier thoroughbred motorcycles.
This bike is featured in the book The Ride / 2nd Gear, New custom motorcycles and their builders. (Gestalten, Berlin 2016).
BONNIE
Based on a 1978 Honda CX500 and inspired by the land-speed record bikes that blasted through the Bonneville salt flats in the 40’s and 50’s. In particular, Rollie Free’s famous Vincent Black Shadow. You probably have seen that photo of Rollie stretched out on his motorcycle in full Superman pose, wearing nothing but swim shorts…
